PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
What are prayer shawls? Prayer shawls are tangible signs of prayer. In other words, the person who creates the shawl prays for the person who will receive it and their need(s). Prayers may be for comfort, healing, faith, discernment, etc. Of course if the creator of the shawl does not know for certain who will receive the shawl, they ask God to provide what He knows the recipient needs.
Are Prayer Shawls the only thing made? Other than prayer shawls, lap robes, and baby blankets are made.
Are Prayer Shawls made only for Catholics or Parishioners at Holy Spirit Church? The recipient does not have to be Catholic or a member of our parish. We believe that our ministry does not have borders but stretches out to all of God’s people no matter what their beliefs or religion.
The prayer shawls, lap robes, and baby blankets created by the members of the Holy Spirit Prayer Shawl Ministry are gathered together and blessed by our parish priest. After the blessing, the items are then ready for distribution.
Who may receive a prayer shawl? As stated before, anyone can receive a prayer shawl. Normally the recipients are people that have come to the attention of one of the members of this ministry. If you know of someone who you feel could benefit from one of our tangible signs of prayer, you can also contact Liz at 218-834-6492 or Linda Hoffman at 218-830-0605.
What is the cost? There is no cost. Prayers and for the most part the materials for these items are provided by the people involved in this ministry.
What can you do to help?
1. You can join us! The group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 9:00 AM in the church hall. Membership in this ministry is open to people of all faiths and experience levels. The group is very informal. Some of the participants are not available during the day but have chosen to participate by creating their tangible signs of prayer at home.
2. Pray for those who have taken on this ministry that their hard work and prayers will be fruitful in helping others.
For more information or to make a donation to this ministry, you can contact one of the members or by calling Liz at 834-6492.
